History
CRC ASIA was created as a result of a meeting convened by Save the Children Sweden last 24 to 25 November 2008 where around 20 national and regional children’s rights organizations presented their respective advocacy and capacity-building related initiatives and have identified common pursuits. The organizations involved were composed of NGO partners of Save the Children Sweden and other regional and local NGO’s who have participated in advocacy work around ASEAN.
An outcome of the discussions in November 2008 was the decision to organize a regional network that would serve as a mechanism for coordination and communication in pursuing the following common agenda. First, developing capacities of regional and national civil society actors on children’s rights based programming and, in particular, children’s participation. Second, enhance national and regional-level work in the area of children’s rights monitoring and reporting. Third, intensify advocacy work both at the regional, i.e. ASEAN, and international, e.g. influencing decisions of UN-related committees and working groups, platforms.
